Is your Spidey Sense tingling? That’s because Peter Parker and his cast of supporting characters are near — at the Comic-Con Museum in Balboa Park.
Today, the museum will debut “Marvel’s Spider-Man: Beyond Amazing,” an exhibition that celebrates the 60-year history of the web-slinging superhero through original comic art, educational + interactive installations, movie props, costumes, and other epic artifacts. 🕷️

SDtoday got a sneak peek of the exhibition yesterday. It was immersive — the sights, the sounds, all made it feel like we were inside the pages of Stan Lee’s + Steve Ditko’s comic books. The exhibition is co-curated by pop culture/comic expert Patrick A. Reed + comic scholar Ben Saunders; Reed told SDtoday the creative collaboration came to life thanks to years of tireless dedication of many superheroes. 🦸
Tickets are available now. It’ll be on display locally through at least the end of the year. |

A date has been set for the 2022 SDCCU Holiday Bowl — Wed., Dec. 28, at 5 p.m. at Petco Park. The pandemic has canceled the college football game for the past two years, but if it does go down this winter, it’ll be the first time the game is played at the downtown venue. 🏈 (Fox 5)
Civic -
Beachgoers (so, all San Diegans), take note: Today, the county will start using a new beach safety category at local beaches. The “Warning” signs tell beachgoers that the water may contain sewage + may cause illness if contacted. Those heading to the shorelines this holiday weekend may see the signs in South County. - One Safe Place — a new family justice center in San Marcos designed to support victims of crimes — opens on
Tues., July 5. The county-run facility will offer
free acute crisis care, advocacy, counseling, therapy, legal services, long-term mentoring, educational programs + more for adults and children, all under one roof. 💙

James Coffee Co. debuted a new location in Escondido, at 341 E. Pennsylvania Ave. (east of Grape Day Park). The coffee shop is open daily from 7 a.m.-2 p.m. and is the brand’s fourth location — but its first in the North County; the others are in North Park, Little Italy + Bankers Hill. ☕
Edu -
UC San Diego received a $1 million gift from late SoCal philanthropist Norma Kershaw to expand its archaeological research in Israel and other parts of the Mediterranean. The money will support cyber-archaeology studies and tools like 3-D digital data that help scientists create visualizations of sites + artifacts. 🔬 (San Diego Union-Tribune)

Rouleur Brewing Company — the cycling-centric craft brewery in North Park + Carlsbad — will host its 35-mile Fourth of July Bike Ride on Monday from Rouleur North Park to Mt. Soledad and back. The free ride is from 9 a.m.-12 p.m., and participants get 15% off all food and beverages once they return to the taproom. 🚲
Pets Ranked Cause -
The Surfrider Foundation of San Diego County will host its 20th Annual Art Gala & Auction on Sun., July 24, from 5-9 p.m. at Stone Brewing in Liberty Station. The fundraiser will feature local artwork, music, beer + food to support the organization’s mission to protect our ocean, waves, and beaches. 🌊

Something new is brewing at Bird Rock Coffee Roasters: The limited-edition, Little Blue Penguin Coffee for a Cause, a Colombia + Ethiopia 100% whole bean blend with notes of marshmallow, dried fig, and chocolate malt.
The roast was inspired by the newest residents of Birch Aquarium at Scripps in La Jolla — the Little Blue Penguins, who recently moved into their new habitat and will make their grand debut on Tues., July 12. The tiny species is, in fact, blue and about the size of a California burrito. 🐧
For each bag sold, Bird Rock Coffee will donate $1 to Birch Aquarium. With the coffee brand’s name and all, it really is a fitting collab. You know what they say: Birds of a feather flock together.
