• San Diego police officers have been taking mandatory non-bias trainings to help them understand + communicate with members of our LGBTQ+ communities. • Qualcomm is discovering new reality with its recently announced $100 million Snapdragon Metaverse Fund to help push forward extended reality technology. Applications will open in June for companies building technologies in areas like augmented reality or artificial intelligence to help improve XR. 🖥️
• Former UC San Diego roommates (and surfers) have joined their business + engineering knowledge to develop DragonSkin — a stingray-resistant bootie for waterwear. Together, they designed and marketed a material capable of withstanding a stingray attack while leaving the animal unharmed. 🌊 (La Jolla Light)

Arts

• A new mural in Vista is a big deal for the Found Lofts in the city’s downtown Arts and Culture District. Designed by Dutch artist Joram Roukes, the 60-foot painting is the tallest in North County and honors Vista’s native roots + the storytelling of the San Luis Rey Band of Mission Indians. 🎨 (CBS 8)

Older Adults

• Ivy Senior Apartments has opened its 53-unit complex in Clairemont to assist locals 55+ who have experienced homelessness. The building will house tenants earning as much as 50% of the median income in the San Diego Area, and will reserve seven units for individuals in need of chronic mental health care. 🏠 (Fox 5)

Pets

• The San Diego Humane Society is offering a treat to dog owners. Pups can be licensed for free until Fri., March 25. Under the promotion, all fees — including late fees — will be waived so dogs can be easily identified + vaccination records can be stored. 🐕

Outdoors

• Rancho Santa Fe-based company Good Shepards decided fossil fuels were a baa-d investment for preventing wildfires, so it replaced its weedwackers and mowers with goats and sheep. In all, 135 animals were employed to eat their way through the space, turning dried grass + weeds from fire fuel into lunch. 🐐 (CBS 8)

• University City residents can focus on growing stronger while avoiding injuries when fitness boutique P.volve opens in late summer. The New York-based franchise offers a full-body workout while adjusting sessions to personal injuries to avoid risks associated with high-impact workouts. 💪
